स तु द्विप: पठ्चभिरुत्तमेषुभि: कृतः षडंशकश्षतुरो नृपस्त्रिभि: । कृतो दशांश: कुशलेन युध्यता यथा हविस्तद्दशदैवतं तथा,युद्धकुशल अभश्वत्थामाने पाँच उत्तम बाण मारकर उस हाथीके छ: टुकड़े कर दिये और फिर तीन बाणसे राजाके भी चार टुकड़े कर डाले। इस प्रकार दोनों मिलाकर दस भाग कर दिये। जैसे कि कर्मनिपुण पुरोहित दस हविर्धान यज्ञमें इन्द्र आदि दस देवताओंके लिये हविष्यके दस भाग कर देता है

sa tu dvipaḥ pañcabhir uttamaiṣubhiḥ kṛtaḥ ṣaḍ-aṁśakaś śatruro nṛpas tribhiḥ | kṛto daśāṁśaḥ kuśalena yudhyatā yathā havis tad-daśa-daivataṁ tathā ||

Sañjaya dijo: Con cinco flechas soberbias, el elefante fue cortado en seis porciones; y con tres flechas, el rey enemigo fue cortado en cuatro. Así, por la destreza del guerrero, ambos juntos quedaron en diez partes—como un sacerdote diestro en el rito reparte la oblación (havis) en diez porciones para los diez dioses, comenzando por Indra, en una ofrenda de diez partes.
