व्यूहं व्यूह्या महेष्वासो मकरं शत्रुतापन: । प्रत्युद्ययौ तथा कर्ण: पाण्डवान् विजिगीषया,तत्पश्चात् शत्रुओंको संताप देनेवाला महाधनुर्थर कर्ण पाण्डवोंको जीत लेनेकी इच्छासे अपनी सेनाका मकर-व्यूह बनाकर आगे बढ़ा

vyūhaṃ vyūhyā maheṣvāso makaraṃ śatrutāpanaḥ |
pratyudyayau tathā karṇaḥ pāṇḍavān vijigīṣayā ||
Sañjaya dijo: Tras disponer sus fuerzas en la formación de batalla Makara (cocodrilo), Karṇa—gran arquero y azote de enemigos—avanzó para enfrentar a los Pāṇḍavas, impulsado por la determinación de vencerlos.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the power of intention (vijigīṣā, the urge to conquer) joined with disciplined organization (vyūha). In the Mahābhārata’s ethical frame, it also reminds readers that tactical excellence in war does not erase the larger moral burden of violence; resolve and strategy operate within, and are judged by, dharma.
Sañjaya reports that Karṇa arranges his army into the Makara formation and advances to engage the Pāṇḍavas, explicitly motivated by the aim of defeating them.
