Droṇa’s sweeping assault and the Abhimanyu–Jayadratha close-quarters episode (द्रोणस्य भीषणव्यचरितम् / सौभद्र-जयद्रथ-संनिपातः)
तच्चान्तरं महेष्वास त्वयि तेन समाहितम् । स त्वमद्य महाबाहो युध्यस्व मदनन्तरम्
sañjaya uvāca | tac cāntaraṃ maheṣvāsa tvayi tena samāhitam | sa tvam adya mahābāho yudhyasva mad-anantaram | āptair āśu parijñātaṃ bhāradvāja-cikīrṣitam ||
Sañjaya dijo: “Oh gran arquero, ese intervalo estratégico—que él guardaba en reserva—ha sido ahora fijado contra ti. Por tanto, oh de poderosos brazos, combate hoy sin dejarme resquicio alguno. Lo que Bhāradvāja (Droṇa) pretende ha sido averiguado con presteza por agentes de confianza.”
संजय उवाच
In war and governance, vigilance and timely intelligence prevent one from being outmaneuvered; duty (dharma) requires alertness to an opponent’s intent and disciplined action without giving openings.
