भीष्मशिबिरगमनम् — Duryodhana’s Visit to Bhīṣma’s Camp and the Command Appeal
अजानन्नर्जुनश्वापि निहतं पुत्रमौरसम् । जघान समरे शूरान् राज्ञस्तान् भीष्मरक्षिण:,अर्जुनको अपने औरस पुत्र इरावानके मारे जानेका पता नहीं लगा था। वे समरांगणमें भीष्मकी रक्षा करनेवाले शूरवीर नरेशोंका संहार कर रहे थे
sañjaya uvāca |
ajānann arjunaś cāpi nihataṃ putram aurasam |
jaghāna samare śūrān rājñas tān bhīṣma-rakṣiṇaḥ ||
Dijo Sañjaya: Sin saber que su propio hijo legítimo había sido abatido, Arjuna continuó en la batalla, derribando a aquellos reyes heroicos que guardaban a Bhīṣma.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the moral and emotional complexity of dharma in war: a warrior may be steadfast in duty and yet remain ignorant of devastating personal losses, revealing how conflict obscures knowledge and multiplies suffering.
Sanjaya reports that Arjuna, not yet knowing that his own son Iravan had been killed, continued fighting and slaying the heroic kings who were positioned as protectors of Bhishma on the battlefield.
