शृणु भूयो यथातत्त्वं यन्मां त्वं परिपृच्छसि । कारणं भरतमश्रेष्ठ पाण्डवानां जयं प्रति
śṛṇu bhūyo yathātattvaṃ yan māṃ tvaṃ paripṛcchasi | kāraṇaṃ bharataśreṣṭha pāṇḍavānāṃ jayaṃ prati ||
Dijo Sañjaya: «Escucha de nuevo, tal como es en verdad, aquello que me preguntas. Oh el mejor de los Bhāratas, te diré la causa que atañe a la victoria de los Pāṇḍavas».
संजय उवाच
The verse foregrounds truthful narration and careful inquiry: Sañjaya promises to explain the real cause behind the Pāṇḍavas’ success, implying that outcomes in the war are to be understood through dharmic and causal reasoning rather than mere chance.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra has questioned Sañjaya about the basis of the Pāṇḍavas’ impending or actual victory. Sañjaya responds by inviting him to listen again and announces that he will state the true reason relevant to that victory.
