क्षत्रियान्तकरा: संख्ये महावेगा महाबला: । शिरांसि पातयामासुर्वीराणां शतशो रणे,जिघांसन्तं युधां श्रेष्ठ तदा55सीत् तुमुलं महत् । संजय कहते हैं--राजन्! पाण्डवपक्षके लाखों क्षत्रियशिरोमणि महारथी विराट सेनापति शूरवीर श्वेतको आगे करके आपके पुत्र दुर्योधनको अपना बल दिखाते हुए शिखण्डीको सामने रखकर भीष्मके सुवर्णभूषित रथपर चढ़ आये। भारत! वे महारथी श्लेतकी रक्षा करना चाहते थे। इसलिये उसे मारनेकी इच्छावाले योद्धाओंमें श्रेष्ठ भीष्मपर उन्होंने धावा किया। उस समय बड़ा भयंकर युद्ध छिड़ गया जैसे सूर्य उदित होकर अन्धकारको नष्ट कर देते हैं, उसी प्रकार वे सब ओर समरभूमिमें शत्रु-सेनाओंका संहार कर रहे थे। राजन! उनके द्वारा चलाये हुए महान् वेग और बलसे सम्पन्न तथा क्षत्रियोंका विनाश करनेवाले लाखों बाणोंने रणभूमिमें सैकड़ों श्रेष्ठ वीरोंके मस्तक काट गिराये
sañjaya uvāca | kṣatriyāntakarāḥ saṅkhye mahāvegā mahābalāḥ | śirāṃsi pātayāmāsur vīrāṇāṃ śataśo raṇe | jighāṃsantaṃ yudhāṃ śreṣṭha tadā āsīt tumulaṃ mahat ||
Sañjaya dijo: En aquella batalla, las saetas poderosas y veloces—destructoras de guerreros—cayeron con fuerza tremenda, y en la lucha abatieron a cientos de héroes, cercenándoles la cabeza. Cuando los primeros combatientes buscaron matar al mejor de los guerreros, el choque en ese instante se volvió vasto y tumultuoso.
