Bhīmasena’s Kalinga Engagement and the Approach of Bhīṣma (भीमसेन-कालिङ्ग-संग्रामः)
विदर्शयन्त: सम्पेतु: खड्गचर्मपरश्वथै: । कितने ही योद्धा ढाल
vidarśayantaḥ sampetuḥ khaḍga-carma-paraśvathaiḥ |
Sañjaya dijo: Mostrando su destreza marcial, los guerreros se cerraron—blandiendo espadas, escudos y hachas. Sin temor ante el enemigo, avanzaron con ira, apretando los dientes y sellando los labios, y asestaron golpes con fintas aprendidas—hasta apuntando al costado izquierdo para partirlo—y así se lanzaron de frente sobre sus adversarios. La escena subraya cómo la cólera y el arte de la guerra pueden llevar al hombre más allá de la vacilación, haciendo del campo una prueba de valor, templanza y de las ásperas exigencias del deber kṣatriya.
