Adhyāya 41 — Yudhiṣṭhira’s Gurv-anumati and Strategic Counsel (युधिष्ठिरस्य गुर्वनुमतिः)

ऊर्ध्व॑ गच्छन्ति सत्त्वस्था मध्ये तिष्ठन्ति राजसा: । जघन्यगुणवृत्तिस्था अधो गच्छन्ति तामसा:

ūrdhvaṁ gacchanti sattvasthā madhye tiṣṭhanti rājasāḥ | jaghanyaguṇavṛttisthā adho gacchanti tāmasāḥ ||

Quienes están establecidos en sattva ascienden a los reinos superiores; quienes son dominados por rajas permanecen en el término medio, en la condición humana; pero quienes habitan en las conductas más bajas nacidas de tamas descienden, cayendo en estados inferiores de existencia. El verso presenta la psicología moral como destino: la cualidad predominante de mente y acción determina la trayectoria.
