निवारयामास शरै: सम॑ संनतपर्वभि: । सत्यपराक्रमी भीष्म युद्धस्थलमें अन्य सब राजाओं-द्वारा छोड़े हुए बाणोंका झुकी हुई गाँठवाले अपने बाणोंद्वारा तुरंत ही निवारण कर देते थे || ४८ ह ।। शिखण्डी तु रणे बाणान् यान् मुमोच महारथ:
sañjaya uvāca |
nivārayāmāsa śaraiḥ samaṃ sannatapārva-bhiḥ |
śikhaṇḍī tu raṇe bāṇān yān mumoca mahārathaḥ ||
Dijo Sañjaya: Con sus propias flechas—cuyas junturas estaban curvadas—Bhīṣma, firme en el valor verdadero, detuvo y neutralizó al instante las andanadas de saetas que los demás reyes lanzaban en el campo de batalla. Entretanto, Śikhaṇḍī, el gran guerrero de carro, soltó las flechas que había disparado en la lucha.
