The verse highlights how steadfast prowess and duty-driven resolve can make a warrior formidable even when surrounded, while simultaneously pointing to the moral gravity of war: heroic excellence can become a force of widespread suffering, demanding reflection on dharma and the cost of conflict.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Bhīṣma, though encircled by opponents, continues to strike down warriors powerfully—likened to a blazing forest-fire consuming everything in its path.
