Adhyāya 104 — Śikhaṇḍin-puraskāraḥ (Śikhaṇḍin as Vanguard) and Bhīṣma’s Counter-Advance
नाभिमन्युमपश्यन्त नैव स्वान् न परान् रणे । महीपते! तब वे समस्त पाण्डव सैनिक अन्धकारसे आच्छादित हो गये। अत: न तो रणक्षेत्रमें अभिमन्युको देख पाते थे और न अपने तथा शत्रुपक्षके सैनिकोंको ही ।। अभिमन्युश्व तद् दृष्टवा घोररूपं महत्तम:,यह भयंकर एवं महान् अन्धकार देखकर कुरु-कुलको आनन्दित करनेवाले अभिमन्युने अत्यन्त उग्र भास्करास्त्रको प्रकट किया। राजन्! इससे सम्पूर्ण जगतमें प्रकाश छा गया
sañjaya uvāca | nābhimanyum apaśyanta naiva svān na parān raṇe | mahīpate! tataḥ te samastāḥ pāṇḍava-sainikā andhakārasenācchāditā abhavan | ataḥ na raṇakṣetre ’bhimanyum apaśyanta, na ca svān parān vā sainikān | abhimanyuś ca tad dṛṣṭvā ghorarūpaṃ mahattamaṃ, taṃ bhayaṅkaraṃ mahān andhakāraṃ dṛṣṭvā kurukulānandanaḥ abhimanyuḥ atyanta-ugraṃ bhāskarāstraṃ prāduracakāra | rājan! tena samasta-jagate prakāśaḥ samacchāyata |
Dijo Sañjaya: No podían ver a Abhimanyu, ni a los suyos ni a los enemigos, en la batalla. Oh rey, entonces toda la hueste de los Pāṇḍava quedó cubierta por la oscuridad; por ello, en el campo de combate no veían ni a Abhimanyu ni a los soldados de uno u otro bando. Al contemplar aquella tiniebla vasta y terrible, Abhimanyu, deleite del linaje Kuru, manifestó el arma Bhāskara-astra, feroz en extremo. Oh rey, por ella la luz se extendió por todo el mundo.
