वैशम्पायन उवाच यज्ञस्य विधिमग्र्यं वै फलं चापि नराधिप । गदत: शृणु मे राजन्‌ यथावदिह भारत,वैशम्पायनजीने कहा--नरेश्वर! भरतनन्दन! मैं यज्ञकी श्रेष्ठ विधि और फलका यहाँ यथावत्‌ वर्णन करता हूँ, तुम मेरा कथन सुनो

Vaiśampāyana uvāca: yajñasya vidhim agryaṃ vai phalaṃ cāpi narādhipa | gadataḥ śṛṇu me rājan yathāvad iha bhārata ||

Dijo Vaiśampāyana: «Oh señor de los hombres, oh rey de la estirpe Bhārata, escucha mis palabras. Aquí expondré, en el debido orden, el procedimiento más excelso del sacrificio y sus frutos, para que comprendas cómo la acción justa produce el resultado que le corresponde».
