Dakṣiṇā-vibhāga and Avabhṛtha
Completion of the Aśvamedha
Charity (dāna) gains merit and good fame only when grounded in dharma; if a person is habitually violent and committed to adharma, giving cannot generate genuine kīrti in this life or the next.
Vaiśampāyana delivers a moral evaluation within the discourse of the Ashvamedhika Parva, emphasizing that outward acts like donating do not compensate for an inner and ongoing commitment to हिंसा (harm) and अधर्म (unrighteous conduct).
