Educational Q&A

The verse frames righteous kings and sages as radiant when aligned with dharma and sacred duty; their outer splendor (garments, ceremony) symbolizes inner order and legitimacy, likened to the harmonious retinue of Indra with the Saptarṣis in heaven.

During Yudhiṣṭhira’s sacrificial context (Aśvamedha setting), the assembled royal sages—well-adorned and dignified—are described as shining brilliantly, compared to Indra’s accompanying gods in heaven encircled by the Seven Seers.
