अर्जुन–उलूपीसंवादः
Arjuna and Ulūpī: Explanation of Śānti and the Maṇipūra Resolution
इति मत्वा तदात्मान प्रत्यादिष्टं सम मागध: । तथ्यमित्यभिगम्यैनं प्राउजलि: प्रत्यपूजयत्
iti matvā tadātmānaṃ pratyādiṣṭaṃ sa māgadhaḥ | tathyam ity abhigamyainaṃ prāñjaliḥ pratyapūjayat ||
Comprendiendo así que su vida había sido verdaderamente perdonada y que se le había dado licencia para retirarse, el magadha se acercó a Arjuna. Con las manos juntas en señal de reverencia, lo honró respetuosamente.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights ethical restraint in power: when a warrior chooses to spare and formally release an opponent, that act can transform hostility into respect. Mercy aligned with dharma becomes a moral authority that compels acknowledgment even from adversaries.
After hearing Arjuna’s words and realizing he has been spared and dismissed, the Magadhan approaches Arjuna, joins his palms, and offers respectful honor—indicating acceptance of Arjuna’s decision and the truth of his safety.
