The verse highlights rājabhakti (loyalty to rightful authority) expressed through shared restraint and simplicity. By adopting a single garment and accompanying the king, the people embody collective discipline and reverence during a dharmic transition toward renunciation.
Citizens from the city and the wider countryside accompany the royal party to the river Gaṅgā. Their dress—one garment—signals mourning-like austerity and solemn participation as the king moves toward a forest-dwelling, ascetic phase.
