Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Departure for Forest Life
sahadevastu rājānaṃ praṇipatyedam abravīt | aho me bhavato dṛṣṭaṃ hṛdayaṃ gamanaṃ prati ||
Respectful counsel and humility support dharma: Sahadeva’s bow and his approval of Yudhiṣṭhira’s inward turn toward renunciation highlight that true greatness in a ruler includes readiness to relinquish power and pursue self-restraint.
In the Āśramavāsika context, Sahadeva approaches King Yudhiṣṭhira, bows, and observes that the king’s heart is inclined toward departure for an ascetic forest life, treating this intention as auspicious and worthy of gladness.
