The verse elevates dāna (generosity) as a primary dharmic lens: one should seek and value encounters shaped by giving rather than by self-interest, hostility, or display. It frames charity as an ethically purifying act that governs how one is seen and how one sees others.
Vaiśampāyana addresses a heroic figure (“puruṣavyāghra”), urging that the defining ‘darśana’—the significant meeting or outcome—should arise from dāna. In the Ashramavāsika context, this aligns with the post-war moral atmosphere where duty turns toward restraint, expiation, and beneficence.
