Austerity, regulated fasting, residual-eating, and hospitality
अक्रोधना हाचपला: क्षान्ता दान्ता जितेन्द्रिया: । सर्वभूतहिता ये च श्राद्धेष्वेतान् निमन्त्रयेत्
akrodhanā hācapalāḥ kṣāntā dāntā jitendriyāḥ | sarvabhūtahitā ye ca śrāddheṣv etān nimantrayet ||
Bhīṣma dijo: En los ritos de śrāddha debe invitarse a quienes están libres de ira, no son volubles, son pacientes, dueños de sí, señores de sus sentidos y entregados al bien de todos los seres.
भीष्म उवाच
Śrāddha should be supported by ethical discernment: invite people of calmness, steadiness, patience, discipline, sense-mastery, and universal benevolence, since the purity of the rite is linked to the character of those who participate.
In the Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma instructs on dharma and proper conduct. Here he specifies the kinds of virtuous persons who should be invited to participate in śrāddha (ancestral offerings), emphasizing moral qualities over mere status.
