Educational Q&A

The verse underscores the dharmic idea that rewards and resources should be bestowed in harmony with cosmic order: divine rulers grant appropriate, auspicious gifts to the deserving, implying that power and wealth are meaningful when aligned with righteousness and proper conduct.

Bhīṣma is recounting a distribution of divine gifts: Varuṇa grants Varuṇa-associated celestial possessions including elephants, and Indra grants formidable creatures such as lions, tigers, elephants, and birds—illustrating a scene of bestowal and honor.
