The verse upholds the ideal of a Brahmin teacher who is grounded in śama (inner restraint and calm) and lives openly and simply (anāvṛta), implying that true authority in dharma comes from disciplined character and transparent conduct, not mere status.
Bhīṣma issues an instruction to go to a Brahmin village and fetch a specific learned teacher—Śarmī of the Agastya lineage—described as devoted to self-control and living without concealment, indicating that his counsel or presence is sought for a dharmic purpose.
