अन्नौषध्यो महाराज वीरुधश्चव॒ जलोदभवा: । यतः प्राणभृतां प्राणा: सम्भवन्ति विशाम्पते

Transliteration

annauṣadhyo mahārāja vīrudhaś ca jalodbhavāḥ | yataḥ prāṇabhṛtāṃ prāṇāḥ sambhavanti viśāmpate ||

Translation

Bhishma dijo: «Oh gran rey, el alimento y las hierbas medicinales, así como las hierbas y las enredaderas, nacen del agua; pues de ellas brota y se sostiene el aliento vital de los seres, oh señor del pueblo. En verdad, Soma —señor entre las potestades celestes— se manifestó del agua. El amṛta, la sudhā, las ofrendas ‘svāhā’ y ‘svadhā’, y también el alimento, las hierbas, el pasto y las lianas nacen del agua; por medio de ellas la vida de todas las criaturas surge y es nutrida.»
