The verse links righteous conduct with both divine approval (Agni’s continual pleasure) and tangible worldly outcomes—security of one’s livelihood (livestock) and success in conflict—showing dharma as beneficial in spiritual and practical spheres.
In Bhishma’s instruction within the Anushasana Parva, he continues listing the fruits of a certain virtuous practice or duty previously described, stating that the practitioner gains Agni’s favor, suffers no loss of cattle, and achieves victory in battle.
