The verse teaches that giving gold is an especially potent form of dāna because it effectively fulfills a recipient’s needs and wishes; such generosity is praised as dharmic conduct.
Bhishma, instructing King Yudhishthira in the Anushasana Parva’s teachings on gifts and duties, cites an authoritative ancient statement attributed to the sage Atri (son of Brahmā) to extol the greatness of donating gold.
