Adhyāya 57: Tapas–Dāna Phala
On the Fruits of Austerity and Giving
नहि ते वृजिनं किंचित् सुसूक्ष्ममपि विद्यते । “वक्ताओंमें श्रेष्ठ पुत्र! तुमने भलीभाँति मेरी आराधना की है। तुम्हारे द्वारा कोई छोटे- से-छोटा या सूक्ष्म-से-सूक्ष्म अपराध भी नहीं हुआ है
nahi te vṛjinaṃ kiṃcit susūkṣmam api vidyate |
Bhishma dijo: «Hijo, el más excelso entre los oradores, en ti no existe ni el más leve rastro de maldad: no hay falta alguna, ni siquiera la más mínima o sutil. Me has honrado y servido como es debido; por eso estás libre hasta de la ofensa más pequeña.»
भीष्म उवाच
Sincere service and proper reverence toward a worthy elder/teacher is presented as ethically purifying; the ideal disciple is one in whom no trace of wrongdoing can be found, even at the subtlest level.
Bhīṣma addresses the listener (a ‘son’ in affectionate address), commending him for correct attendance and honoring of Bhīṣma, and declares that the listener has committed no offence whatsoever.
