देवदत्तां पतिर्भा्या वेत्ति धर्मस्य शासनात् । स दैवीं मानुषी वाचमनृतां पर्युदस्यति
devadattāṁ patir bhāryāṁ vetti dharmasya śāsanāt | sa daivīṁ mānuṣīṁ vācam anṛtāṁ paryudasyati ||
Bhishma dijo: «En obediencia a las ordenanzas del dharma, el esposo reconoce como esposa a la mujer que, conforme a la ley, ha llegado a él como reparto divino. Por ello la acepta como concedida por el destino y desecha como falsedad el mero hablar humano que declararía impropio tal matrimonio».
