Tīrtha-vaṃśa Upadeśa: Instruction on the Fruits of Sacred Waters
The verse teaches that three virtues—complete non-violence (ahiṁsā), patient endurance (kṣamā/titikṣā), and becoming a refuge to others (protective compassion)—constitute high dharma and lead to a blessed posthumous destiny (svarga).
In the Anushasana Parva, Bhishma is instructing Yudhishthira on dharma and righteous conduct. Here he highlights the moral excellence of those who avoid harming others, bear difficulties without retaliation, and support all beings, declaring them worthy of heaven.
