दानानां च विधिं श्रुत्वा च्छिन्नर्मार्थसंशय: । यदन्यदकरोद् विप्र तन्मे शंसितुमरहसि
dānānāṃ ca vidhiṃ śrutvā chinnārthasaṃśayaḥ | yad anyad akarod vipra tan me śaṃsitum arhasi ||
Dijo Janamejaya: «Habiendo escuchado las reglas y el debido procedimiento de la dádiva, han sido cercenadas mis dudas sobre su sentido. Oh brāhmaṇa, te ruego que me digas qué más hizo él—tú eres digno de referírmelo».
जनमेजय उवाच
That charity (dāna) is governed by vidhi—proper rules and intention—and that understanding these principles removes confusion about its true purpose; one should then seek further exemplary conduct to complete the ethical picture.
King Janamejaya tells the brāhmaṇa narrator that his doubts have been resolved after hearing the procedure of giving, and he requests the next part of the account—what further actions were performed by the person under discussion.
