vāyudeva uvāca hanta te kīrtayiṣyāmi namaskṛtya kapardine | yad avāptaṃ mayā rājan śreyo yac cārjitaṃ yaśaḥ ||
Dijo Vāyudeva: «Ven, oh Rey; te relataré—tras inclinarme primero con reverencia ante Kapardin (Śiva, el Señor de la cabellera enmarañada)—qué bien verdadero he alcanzado y qué fama he ganado».
Before speaking of one’s achievements—whether spiritual welfare (śreyas) or worldly renown (yaśas)—one should begin with reverence and humility, acknowledging the divine (here, Śiva as Kapardin) as the source of auspiciousness.
Vāyudeva addresses a king and introduces a forthcoming account: after offering salutations to Śiva, he will narrate what benefit he has attained and what fame he has earned, setting a devotional and ethical tone for the discourse.
