The verse highlights a moral-cosmic principle: when divine beings (or, by extension, righteous agents) act in harmony with dharma and earn due honour, their inner power (tejas) and effective strength (vīrya) grow, culminating in lasting renown and an elevated state symbolised here as immortality.
Bhishma describes the aftermath of a prior event: the gods experience an increase in radiance and prowess, and, being honoured across the three worlds, they attain the celebrated condition of immortality.
