रोगार्तो व्याधियुक्तो वा पठन् पापात् प्रमुच्यते । वास्तुमध्ये तु पठत: कुले स्वस्त्ययनं भवेत्
rogārto vyādhiyukto vā paṭhan pāpāt pramucyate | vāstumadhye tu paṭhataḥ kule svastyayanaṃ bhavet ||
Dijo Bhīṣma: Ya sea que uno esté afligido por dolencia o abatido por enfermedad, al recitar esto queda libre de pecado. Y si lo recita dentro de su morada, se vuelve causa de bienestar y buen augurio para toda su estirpe.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse teaches the purificatory and protective power of recitation: it removes pāpa (moral demerit) and is believed to promote health and auspicious welfare, extending its benefit from the individual to the whole family when performed within the home.
Bhīṣma, in his instruction on dharma and religious observances, describes the fruit (phala) of reciting the referenced sacred names/formula: relief from sin and the arising of svastyayana—well-being and auspiciousness—for one’s household and lineage.
