Adhyāya 152 — Bhīṣma’s Authorization for Yudhiṣṭhira’s Return to the Capital (नगरप्रवेशानुज्ञा)

उमाने कहा--भगवन्‌! सर्वभूतेश्वर! भूत

strī ca bhūteśa satataṃ striyam evānudhāvati | mayā sammānitāś caiva bhaviṣyanti saridvarāḥ ||

Umā dijo: «Oh Señor Bienaventurado, soberano de todos los seres—oh Mahādeva, Supremo y encarnación del pasado, del futuro y del presente—por tu poder mi palabra ha quedado inspirada; ahora puedo describir el dharma de las mujeres. Pero, oh Señor de los dioses, estos ríos excelsos, colmados con las aguas de todos los vados sagrados, se acercan a ti para tus ritos de baño y de sorber el agua (ācaman), o para tocar tus pies. Tras consultarlo con ellos, expondré, en el debido orden, los deberes de las mujeres. Sólo se llama verdaderamente “hombre” a quien, siendo capaz, está libre de arrogancia. (Verso) «Y, oh Señor de los seres, una mujer sigue siempre a una mujer; y esos ríos, los mejores, honrados por mí, llegarán ciertamente a ser propicios y bien dispuestos.»
