Educational Q&A

The verse frames devotion as disciplined listening and recitation: sacred names (nāma) of the supreme Lord are to be learned from a qualified elder and repeated with reverence, establishing a dharmic path of praise (stuti) and remembrance.

In Bhīṣma’s instruction to Yudhiṣṭhira, Yudhiṣṭhira requests that Bhīṣma recount the auspicious names of Śiva—described as the Lord even of Brahmā—setting up a section on Śiva’s greatness and the power of his names.
