Conduct of the Virtuous Wife

सुखादेव परं दुःखं दुःखादप्यपरं सुखम्‌ । दृश्यते हि महाप्राज्ञ नियतं वै स्वभावत:

sukhād eva paraṃ duḥkhaṃ duḥkhād apy aparaṃ sukham | dṛśyate hi mahāprājña niyataṃ vai svabhāvataḥ ||

Dijo Vyāsa: “Del placer mismo nace un dolor mayor; y del dolor también nace una dicha ulterior. Esto se ve en verdad, oh sapientísimo: por la propia naturaleza, la alternancia está fijada. Quienes se aferran a los placeres de los sentidos caen del goce al sufrimiento intenso; en cambio, quienes soportan la aspereza mediante austeridad y disciplina son vistos alcanzar la dicha desde ese mismo sufrimiento.”
