Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: On the Superiority of Giving
Maitreya–Vyāsa Exemplum
वहतां सुमहाभारं संनिकर्षे स्वनं प्रभो । नृणां च संवाहयतां श्रूयते विविध: स्वन:
vahatāṃ sumahābhāraṃ saṃnikarṣe svanaṃ prabho | nṛṇāṃ ca saṃvāhayatāṃ śrūyate vividhaḥ svanaḥ ||
«Señor, oigo muy cerca el retumbar de un carro que lleva una carga inmensa. También oigo los muchos gritos y llamadas de los hombres que lo conducen. Cuando tal estrépito cae en mis oídos, me asalta el temor de que el carro venga y me aplaste; por eso huyo de aquí con premura. Mira: suena el látigo sobre los bueyes, y ellos se acercan, jadeando bajo el gran peso.»
