Praise of the ‘Mental Tīrtha’ and the Marks of Purity
Sustained, disciplined fire-offering (regular oblations to Agni over a full year) is presented as a dharmic practice that yields exalted spiritual results—attainment of higher celestial realms—highlighting the Mahābhārata’s linkage between ritual steadiness, merit, and posthumous destiny.
In Bhīṣma’s instruction on dharma, he enumerates the fruits of specific religious observances. Here he states the reward for one who continually performs offerings to Agni for twelve months: reaching the divine Auśanasa realm and also Indra’s heaven (Śakra-loka).
