Praise of the ‘Mental Tīrtha’ and the Marks of Purity

Educational Q&A

The verse presents a karmic-ethical principle: extraordinary pleasures and honors in heavenly realms arise as results of puṇya (merit) and tejas (spiritual radiance). Enjoyment is depicted as a consequence of righteous conduct, not as an independent goal.

Bhishma describes a virtuous man ascending to a divine vimāna that fulfills all desires. Shining celestial maidens, adorned with divine attire and ornaments, entertain him for immense cosmic durations measured in kalpas.
