Praise of Ācāra as the Basis of Longevity, Fame, and Prosperity
It prescribes a rule of personal conduct (ācāra): during the day one should face north, and at night face south, when relieving oneself; such disciplined observance is said to protect one’s longevity.
In the Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma is instructing Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma through practical injunctions about daily behavior and cleanliness, presenting them as part of righteous living.
