nidārśanam idaṃ rājan śṛṇu me bharatarṣabha | duruktavacane rājan yathāpūrva yudhiṣṭhira ||
Bhīṣma introduces a moral illustration to warn that harsh or improper speech (durukta-vacana) has serious ethical consequences; a king should practice restraint and propriety in words.
Bhīṣma addresses King Yudhiṣṭhira and begins an instructive story (nidārśana), signaling that an older precedent will be recounted to explain the issue of ill-spoken words.
