Śukra’s Ultimatum and Devayānī’s Demand
tvayā dāyādavān asmi tvaṃ me vaṃśakaraḥ sutaḥ | pauravo vaṃśa iti te khyātiṃ loke gamiṣyati |
The verse underscores the dharmic importance of rightful succession: a son is not merely a biological descendant but the legitimate continuer of a lineage, ensuring social order, continuity of duties, and the enduring reputation of the family line.
A father-figure addresses his son/heir, affirming that through him he truly has a successor and declaring that the son’s descendants will become widely known in the world as the ‘Paurava’ dynasty.
