Ādi Parva, Adhyāya 68 — Sarvadamana’s Childhood and Śakuntalā’s Claim at Court
इमं तु भूय इच्छामि कुरूणां वंशमादित: । कथ्यमानं त्वया विप्र विप्र्षिगणसंनिधौ,विप्रवर! अब इन ब्रह्मर्षियोंक समीप आपके द्वारा वर्णित कुरुवंशका वृत्तान्त पुनः आदिसे ही सुनना चाहता हूँ
imaṃ tu bhūya icchāmi kurūṇāṃ vaṃśam āditaḥ | kathyamānaṃ tvayā vipra viparṣigaṇa-saṃnidhau ||
Janamejaya dijo: «Con todo, deseo oír de nuevo, desde el principio, el linaje de los Kurus—oh brahmán—tal como lo relatas aquí, en presencia de la asamblea de los grandes rishis.»
जनमेजय उवाच
The verse underscores the Itihasa method: dharma and royal legitimacy are understood through careful remembrance of lineage and origins, narrated by qualified sages in a learned assembly.
King Janamejaya requests the narrator to retell, from the very beginning, the genealogy of the Kuru dynasty, and he emphasizes that the account is to be delivered before an assembly of eminent seers.
