कुरुवंशप्रश्नः—दुःषन्तस्य राजधर्मवर्णनम्

अह्वा यदेन: क्रियते इन्द्रियर्मनसापि वा । ज्ञानादज्ञानतो वापि प्रकरोति नरश्न यत्,दिनमें इन्द्रियों अथवा मनके द्वारा जो पाप बन जाता है अथवा मनुष्य जानकर या अनजानमें जो पाप कर बैठता है, वह सब महाभारतकी कथा सुनते ही नष्ट हो जाता है। इसमें भरतवंशियोंके महान् जन्म-वृत्तान्तका वर्णन है, इसलिये इसको “महाभारत” कहते हैं
vaiśampāyana uvāca | ahvā yad enaḥ kriyate indriyair manasāpi vā | jñānād ajñānato vāpi prakaro ti naraḥ yat |
Dijo Vaiśampāyana: Cualquier pecado cometido—por los sentidos o incluso por la mente, ya sea a sabiendas o sin saberlo, de cualquier clase que un hombre pueda perpetrar—todo ello queda destruido en el mismo instante en que se escucha el relato del Mahābhārata. Y porque contiene el gran relato del nacimiento y linaje de los Bharatas, por eso se llama “Mahābhārata”.
