Adhyāya 57: Indra’s Counsel to King Vasu; Origin of Satyavatī; Birth of Vyāsa

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how destructive outcomes follow when a powerful ritual is fueled by vengeance rather than restraint and dharma: even formidable beings become victims when anger turns sacrifice into slaughter.

Śaunaka describes the ongoing serpent-sacrifice in which Nāgas—especially those of Vāsuki’s lineage and many others of the same clan—are drawn into and consumed by the blazing sacrificial fire as offerings.
