Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the potency of properly performed, rule-governed action (vidhi). It also sets up an ethical question central to the snake-sacrifice episode: even when a rite is executed flawlessly, its moral weight depends on intention and consequence—ritual correctness does not automatically equal righteousness.

After the decision to conduct the serpent-sacrifice, the ceremony formally begins. The priests take up their designated roles and proceed according to the established ritual procedure, initiating the process that will draw serpents toward destruction.
