Even when an outwardly proper act is later performed according to śāstra (here, giving a woman in marriage by scriptural procedure), a prior moral fault (kilbiṣa) does not simply vanish; it can persist inwardly as remorse, emphasizing personal accountability and the ethical weight of earlier wrongdoing.
Śaunaka states that the father, at a later point, formally gives the woman to the sage Bhṛgu in a śāstra-compliant marriage. He then addresses the Bhārgava, noting that the father’s earlier offense remains constantly lodged in his heart as a continuing pang of guilt.
