परिक्षिद्वृत्तान्तप्रश्नः
Inquiry into Parīkṣit’s Conduct and the Beginnings of His Downfall
न हि नस्तत् तपस्तस्य तारयिष्यति सत्तम । छिन्नमूलान् परिभ्रष्टानू कालोपहतचेतस:,'साधुशिरोमणे! उस जरत्कारुकी तपस्या हमें इस संकटसे नहीं उबारेगी। देखिये, हमारी जड़ें कट गयी हैं, कालने हमारी चेतनाशक्ति नष्ट कर दी है और हम अपने स्थानसे भ्रष्ट होकर नीचे इस गड्ढेमें गिर रहे हैं। जैसे पापियोंकी दुर्गति होती है, वैसे ही हमारी होती है। हम समस्त बन्धु-बान्धवोंके साथ जब इस गड़ढेमें गिर जायँगे, तब वह जरत्कारु भी कालका ग्रास बनकर अवश्य इसी नरकमें आ गिरेगा। तात! तपस्या, यज्ञ अथवा अन्य जो महान् एवं पवित्र साधन हैं, वे सब संतानके समान नहीं हैं। तात! आप तपस्याके धनी जान पड़ते हैं। आपको तपस्वी जरत्कारु मिल जाय तो उससे हमारा संदेश कहियेगा और आपने यहाँ जो कुछ देखा है, वह सब उसे बता दीजियेगा! ब्रह्मन्! हमें सनाथ बनानेकी दृष्टिसे आप जरत्कारुके साथ इस प्रकार वार्तालाप कीजियेगा, जिससे वह पत्नी-संग्रह करे और उसके द्वारा पुत्रोंको जन्म दे। तात! जरत्कारुके बान्धव जो हमलोग हैं, हमारे लिये अपने कुलकी भाँति अपने भाई-बन्धुके समान आप सोच कर रहे हैं। अतः साधुशिरोमणे! बताइये, आप कौन हैं? हम सब लोगोंमेंसे आप किसके क्या लगते हैं, जो यहाँ खड़े हुए हैं? हम आपका परिचय सुनना चाहते हैं!
takṣaka uvāca | na hi nas tat tapas tasya tārayiṣyati sattama | chinnamūlān paribhraṣṭān kālopahatacetasaḥ ||
Takṣaka dijo: «Oh el mejor de los buenos, su ascesis no nos rescatará de esta desgracia. Nuestras raíces han sido cortadas; el Tiempo ha abatido la claridad de nuestra mente; arrancados de nuestro lugar debido, estamos cayendo. En tal estado, la sola austeridad personal no puede ser nuestra salvación.»
