Jaratkāru’s Marital Compact and Departure

The passage highlights the tension between diligent human effort (mantras, antidotes, guarding the king) and the momentum of destined consequences set in motion by prior deeds and curses; ethical action includes taking prudent protective measures even when outcomes may be constrained by fate.
Takṣaka learns that King Parīkṣit is being carefully protected through mantras and poison-neutralizing remedies. In the surrounding episode, Kāśyapa—capable of countering the poison—turns back after taking wealth, and Takṣaka proceeds toward Hastināpura to carry out the fatal bite.
