आदि पर्व — अध्याय 39: तक्षक–काश्यप संवादः, न्यग्रोधसंजीवनम्, पारिक्षितोपायः

देवा वासुकिना सार्थ पितामहमथाब्रुवन्‌ | भगवउ्छापभीतो<यं वासुकिस्तप्यते भूशम्‌,तदनन्तर थोड़ा ही समय व्यतीत होनेपर सम्पूर्ण देवताओं तथा असुरोंने समुद्रका मनन्‍्थन किया। उसमें बलवानोंमें श्रेष्ठ वासुकि नाग मन्दराचलरूप मथानीमें लपेटनेके लिये रस्सी बने हुए थे। समुद्र-मन्थनका कार्य पूरा करके देवता वासुकि नागके साथ पितामह ब्रह्माजीके पास गये और उनसे बोले--“भगवन्‌! ये वासुकि माताके शापसे भयभीत हो बहुत संतप्त होते रहते हैं

devā vāsukinā sārthaṃ pitāmaham athābruvan | bhagavan śāpabhīto 'yaṃ vāsukis tapyate bhṛśam |

Los dioses, acompañados de Vāsuki, hablaron entonces a Pitāmaha Brahmā: «¡Oh Señor Bienaventurado! Este Vāsuki, aterrorizado por la maldición de su madre, padece intensamente». El pasaje enmarca la responsabilidad divina hacia un ser afligido: aun los poderosos buscan consejo sabio cuando el miedo y las consecuencias de una maldición pesan sobre alguien, y la compasión se vuelve una forma de dharma.
