कृतं युवाभ्यां कर्मेदममरैरपि दुष्करम् | वरं वृणीतं तुष्टो<स्मि दुर्लभं पुरुषेष्विह,“आप दोनोंने यह ऐसा कार्य किया है, जो देवताओंके लिये भी दुष्कर है। मैं बहुत प्रसन्न हूँ। इस लोकमें मनुष्योंके लिये जो दुर्लभ हो ऐसा कोई वर आप दोनों माँग लें!
kṛtaṃ yuvābhyāṃ karmedam amarair api duṣkaram | varaṃ vṛṇītaṃ tuṣṭo 'smi durlabhaṃ puruṣeṣv iha ||
Dijo Vaiśampāyana: «Vosotros dos habéis consumado una hazaña difícil incluso para los dioses. Estoy muy complacido. Por ello, escoged un don: cualquier cosa que sea rara de obtener para los hombres en este mundo».
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Exceptional effort that fulfills a difficult duty is worthy of recognition; when a righteous or admirable deed is completed, a fitting reward (vara) may be granted, highlighting the ethical link between action (karma) and its fruit.
The speaker, Vaiśaṃpāyana, praises two individuals for completing an extraordinarily difficult task—so difficult that even gods would find it challenging—and, being pleased, invites them to ask for a rare boon.
