संशयो वह्लिरागच्छेद् दृष्टं वायोर्निवर्तनम् । मृत्यु्नों बिलवासिभ्यो बिले स्याजन्नात्र संशय:,आग यहाँतक आयेगी, इसमें संदेह है; क्योंकि वायुके वेगसे अग्निका दूसरी ओर पलट जाना भी देखा गया है। परंतु बिलमें तो उसके भीतर रहनेवाले जीवोंसे हमारी मृत्यु होनेमें कोई संशय ही नहीं है
saṁśayo vahnir āgacched dṛṣṭaṁ vāyor nivartanam | mṛtyur no bilavāsibhyo bile syāj nâtra saṁśayaḥ ||
Dijo Vaiśampāyana: «Es posible que el fuego llegue incluso hasta nosotros—hay lugar para la duda—pues se ha visto que un viento recio puede hacer que las llamas se vuelvan en dirección contraria. Pero en cuanto a entrar en la madriguera, no hay duda alguna: allí la muerte nos vendría con certeza por mano de las criaturas que habitan dentro.»
